Altrider Upper Crash Bars Comes with 4 flathead screws.
Attach the Exhaust System Push the exhaust header flanges up and start the 4 acorn nuts.
Attach the Exhaust System The top exhaust bracket lined up and I was able to run the screw in. Tighten this to 18ft lbs (25nm).
Attach the Exhaust System The lower exhaust hanger is getting close to lining up.
Attach the Exhaust System I put a flat bar under my shims so I can lever up the exhaust until it lines up. I then inserted a drift pin through the lower bracket to line it up.
Attach the Exhaust System Now that the exhaust system was almost in place I was able to run the acorn flange nuts farther up by hand.
Attach the Exhaust System With the exhaust system just about in position I was able to remove the supports under the exhaust.
Temp Install Mounting Bolts I want the lower right side crash bar to be in the correct position so I can tighten all the exhaust hangers and the foot rest bracket. I bolted the crash bar to the universal bracket to establish its position.
Tighten the Footrest Bracket This it the 10mm hex getting tightened to 51ft lbs (69nm).
Tightening the Lower Exhaust Hanger The hanger bolt originally was inserted from behind. You can't do that anymore because the lower crash bar bracket is in the way. You have to insert the lower bolt in from the front.
Tightening the Lower Exhaust Hanger This special washer gets inserted behind the bracket where the bolt comes through the back.
Tightening the Lower Exhaust Hanger Put locktite on the acorn nut and use a 12mm open end wrench to position the nut behind the bracket.. You have to use an open end because the space behind the bracket isn't deep enough to get any other wrench out.
Tightening the Lower Exhaust Hanger Tighten this to 18ft lbs (25nm)
Torque the Exhaust Manifold Flanges Torque to 15ft lbs (20nm).
Bend the Brake Pedal out 3/16" The brake pedal is pretty close to the lower crash bar because the thickness of the bracket holds the crash bar out. I stuck a 1/2" breaker bar into the square brake pedal hole and levered it out.
Upper Crash Bar Bracket
This Shows the Existing Bracket Under the Headlight The 2 bolts are removed and the bracket is inserted over the existing bracket and bolted into place using 2 longer supplied bolts.
Installing the Upper Crash Bar Bracket Remove the existing bolts. They are both 12mm.
A 12mm Gearwrench Was Perfect for this
Installing the Upper Crash Bar Bracket Slide the new bracket up and over the existing bracket and line up the holes. I used a short punch to line them up.
Run the 2 Bolts in The new longer bolts have 13mm heads. You use the 2 left over 12mm nuts. I used a 13mm socket on a universal attached to a long extension to run the bolts in.
Run the 2 Bolts in I put locktite on the 2 nuts and screwed them on by hand. I snugged them up with a 13mm gearwrench.
Torque the 2 Bolts I torqued the bolts to 18ft lbs (25nm).
Mount the Right Side Upper Crash Bar I slipped the right side upper crash bar bracket behind the lower crash bar bracket and stuck the bolts in leaving them loose.
Mount the Right Side Upper Crash Bar I ran the 2 flathead screws through the top of the bar into the front mounting bracket under the headlight.
Mount the Left Side Upper Crash Bar Chuck holding the left side upper crash bar.
Mount the Left Side Upper Crash Bar Put locktite on the 4 flat head screws that fasten the top crash bar tubes together.
Mount the Left Side Upper Crash Bar Bring the left upper crash bar up and insert it into the right crash bar.
Mount the Left Side Upper Crash Bar Line all the holes up and insert the 4 flat head screws through the tubes.
Mount the Left Side Upper Crash Bar Position the left upper crash bar bracket behind the lower left crash bar bracket.
Mount the Left Side Upper Crash Bar Tighten the flat head screws with a 4mm hex to 4 ft. lbs (5nm). Bring the torque up slowly and alternate sides unit all 4 are tight.
Mount the Left Side Upper Crash Bar I used a drift pin to align the the brackets. Insert the 2 M6 hex head cap screws with a washer through the left side lower crash bar bracket, left side upper crash bar bracket and the universal bracket. Use locktite on the bolts.
Mount the Left Side Upper Crash Bar Run the 2 M6 bolts in with a 6mm hex backed with a 13mm open end wrench.
Mount the Left Side Upper Crash Bar Tighten to 18ft. lbs (25nm).
Mount the Left Side Upper Crash Bar Go around and tighten the right side to 18ft. lbs (25nm) with the 6mm hex and 13mm open end wrench.
Crash Bar Blocks These protect the crash bars.
Crash Bar Blocks The blocks are thicker in this direction.
