I lowered the bike so I have to put a shorter side stand on.
Pop the spring off.
The spring is removed. See the lower adjustable side stand.
This is an 8mm screw.
Remove the side stand nut 14mm.
Use a 12mm wriench to remove the bolt from the back side.
Pull out the bolt.
Tap out the bushing which is behind the threaded insert.
The bushing if full of grease.
Pull out the bushing.
The side stand will lift off..
The new side stand is threaded. The old side stand has a threaded insert.
You can see the slot for the side stand switch actuator.
I took a guess at the length for the new side stand. It can be changed later.
This is how the piggy back bolt looks that holds the side stand and the side stand switch.
These are the spring perches the spring wraps around.
I used locktite blue to hold the spring perch in the new stand.
Cover the bushing with antisieze or grease and inset it into the stand from the inside.
Insert the piggy back bolt through the bushing from the inside.
Use a 12mm wrench to tighten the side stand piggyback bolt to the side stand. The side stand is threaded.
Start the nut onto the piggyback bolt.and tighten the nut with a 14mm wrench.
Align the tab sticking out of the side stand switch with the milled out slot in the side stand. Align the 'U' in the side stand switch with the spring perch pin above the switch.
Put some locktite blue on the side stand switch bolt.
Screw the side stand switch in with an 8mm socket..
Hang the side stand spring on the upper perch with the spring hook facing the direction per the photo.
This is a spring installation tool. Stretch the spring and pop it on the lower perch.
The spring correctly in place.
The shorter side stand makes the bike stable. The problem is the new stand has no foot and sinks into any soft surface.
2.25" dia 58.00. You have to get a foot for the stand.
The only way to install this is to put it on square which means it won't be flat to the ground and will be longer.
I went out for a test ride and pulled off on the right side of a highly crowned road. When I put the stand down I felt that the bike wasn't leaning over enough and it might fall over if I got off. The side stand is as short as it can go.
I'm going to shorten the stand by cutting 3/4" off the end of both pieces. I mounted the main stand in the vise so the front would be square.
I lined the saw up with the blocks so the cut would be square.
Cut off the inner stand. right at the countersink. We're going to drill another hole.
Drilled a 1/4" hole.
I actually had the right countersink.
I put it together as short as it would go. If I filed off more at the top of the inner piece I probably could get it shorter.
The stand went on easy as did the spring because it wasn't streatched as far. The new bike leaned over 28 degrees. With this latest change the bike leans over 32 degrees.
