Remove the 4 - 5mm hex screws from the skid plate. Spacers will probably fall out inside the plate. You don't have to remove the 2 screws holding the exhaust heat shield.
The skid plate screws use a 5mm hex.
Remove if Permanently Removing the OEM Skid Plate
There's a spacer in the center of the grommets on the 3 larger screws. The 2 screws ajacent to the oil filter have U shaped spring nuts. These will all probably just fall out when you remove the skid plate.
This uses a smaller screw and spacer in the grommet with a U shaped spring nut.
This one is just under the shifter lever. It has a spacer too.
The rear of the skid plate has a hole with a rubber grommet. Stick this over the post sticking out under the bike. This holds the plate in place while you screw the other bolts in.
Place the spacers and the U threaded inserts in place over the 2 screws next to the oil filter. Raise the plate up and screw these in. leave them loose.
insert the spacer and screw in the lower side bolt. Place the spacer and U clip on the upper side bracket and start the screw.
Go around and tighten the 4 screws up.
This one is on the right side of the bike. Just unscrew the bolt and remove.
This one is on the left side of the bike bolted into the side case with 2 screws. The screws are an 8mm hex.
Replace the 2 screws and torque them to 9ft lbs.
