Install Denali D4 Driving Lights on the 2022 Africa Twin Adventure Sport
I want to be seen while I'm out on the bike. The best way to do this is with a set of powerful lights that have selective yellow lenses. The intent of selective yellow is to improve vision by removing short, blue to violet wavelengths from the projected light. These wavelengths are difficult for the human visual system to process properly, and they cause perceived dazzle and glare effects in rain, fog and snow. Selective yellow is not the same as amber.
I've led a number of motorcycle rides. Whenever my tail man has bright selective yellow lights I've been able to easily see from a distance if he was still following. If I still saw those bright yellow lights I knew everybody in the group made the turn.
Whenever I'm riding and see side streets I worry that someone might pull out in front of me. Having these lights will help me be seen.
I choose the Denali D4 lights because they are high quality bright lights that have interchangeable lenses. They have lots of options for brightness control and switching. I chose their datadim module so I could have a choice between full and half intensity using the optional Denali Hi-Low-Off waterproof switch. Sweet and simple. I don't need continuous dimming or the lights to get brighter when I turn my brights on. Denali as well as Clearwater make more powerful lights. I felt that anything more powerful will be overkill and draw more current from the electrical system.
The highlights of the install are using the lame little Honda tool box that serves as a battery cover to house the datadim module. This was nice because it put the battery wires right next to the battery. Since the battery is foreward on the bike it was easy to route the rest of the harness to the area under the left cowl where I had access to the accessory socket, handlebars and the lights themselves. I removed the front left cowl and grabbed a switched wire off the accessory socket harness. I was able to tuck excess wire under the cowl.
I initially mounted the lights on the forks because I was waiting for my crash bars to arrive.
